Department of Political Science

About the Department:

The Department started its journey on 10th August, 2016. Earlier the Department was named as Department of Public Administration. However, from 2021-2022 academic session it has been renamed as Department of Political Science. The basic objective of the Department is to train Post Graduate Students thoroughly in all branches of the discipline. The curriculum of the Department focuses on the theoretical concepts as well as recent empirical aspects in the discipline. This is expected to enrich the students with necessary conceptual awareness to undertake further specialized studies and research activities in Political Science and other allied disciplines.

Research and Development Activities:

The faculty members are engaged in research and development activities. As part of this initiative, they have been participating in numerous national and international seminars/webinars/conferences with invited lectures and paper presentation. They have also contributed research papers and chapters in reputed journals and books. The Department has published a book, Environmental Administration: Concepts, Issues and Challenges, edited by Dr. Bindu Ranjan Chakma, containing research papers from institutes of Higher Education from across India. The Department has also successfully organized many national and international seminars since its inception. To augment and accelerate research activities and contribute knowledge to the academic field and society, the Department has introduced Ph D programme from 2020-2021 academic session. Three students have successfully completed Ph D registration after completing their Ph D Course Work. Four more scholars have been selected for pursuing Ph. D Course Work during the 2021-2022 academic session.

Achievement of the Department:

 

The Department has revised the Post Graduate Syllabus from time to time through BPGS meeting and introduced CBCS in consonance with the New Education Policy. Students’ participation with paper presentation in Departmental seminar is very encouraging and is an important source of academic achievement. The strength of the Department lies in the enrolment of large number of Scheduled Tribes students hailing from rural areas, among whom many after successfully completing their post-graduation, are engaged in community development programmes.

Students Excellence:

  1. Sri Rupak Biswas, the first batch of the Department, successfully UGC NET with JRF. He is presently working as Assistant Professor in Holy Cross College, Agartala, as Assistant Professor, Agartala.
  2. Sri Nantu Bhowmik and Priyanka Debnath have been selected as interns and successfully completed internship programme with SIPARD, Agartala in 2019.
  3. Sri Aparjen Debbarma has been selected as intern and successfully completed internship programme with SIPARD, Agartala in 2021.
  4. Ms. Surabi Chanda and Ms. Puja Roy working as Guest Faculty in Political Science at Netaji Subhas Mahavidyalaya, Udaipur and Shantirbazar Govt. Degree College.
