The Department of Library and Information Science came into being in 2016, marking the inception of its journey. Initially offering a one-year Bachelor in Library and Information Science (BLISc) program, the department has steadily evolved. Currently, the BLISc program admits fifty students, providing them with comprehensive training and basic of Library and Information Science.
In 2020, a significant milestone was achieved with the introduction of the one-year Master in Library and Information Science (MLISc) program, catering to the evolving needs of the field. The MLISc program, with an intake capacity of thirty students, embodies the department's commitment to excellence in education.
Building upon its commitment to fostering research excellence, the Department embarked on a new milestone by launching its PhD program. This initiative reflects the department's dedication to cultivating a culture of high-quality research, providing students with unparalleled opportunities to explore and contribute to the recent trends in the fields.
In line with its innovation and responsiveness to industry demands, the Department has also recently introduced the one-year Post Graduate Diploma in Library Automation and Networking (PGDLAN) program. This program, offered in evening and self-financing modes, is designed to provide students with hands-on practical experiences in developing automated library systems.
At the core of the department's mission lies the cultivation of expertise in both traditional and contemporary library systems with the new challenges of Artificial Intelligence. By empowering students with proficiency in handling various information tools, the department aims to foster a generation of knowledge creators poised to thrive in diverse information environments.
The curriculum is continuously updated to adhere to the CBCS pattern; ensuring students enjoy enhanced flexibility in choosing their courses. All courses are meticulously crafted following the UGC-CBCS model, offering immense potential for research pursuits. This framework serves as a solid foundation for aspiring researchers, nurturing their journey towards a thriving research career. Moreover, the department actively fosters academic engagement through regular seminars and conferences. Students are encouraged to immerse themselves in practical experiences within diverse library settings, fostering hands-on learning and professional development.
