The Department has been established in the year 2022 with the objective of deciphering the history and culture of India and world with special focus on regional history of Northeast India in general and Tripura in particular. It is run in self-finance mode. The salient features of the programme are to train the students in the different aspects of history from ancient to modern ranging Historiography, Post Independent India, Mahatma Gandhi, Ecology & Environment and Contemporary World. The curriculum of the Department has been framed in accordance with the NEP-2020 giving importance of the Indian Knowledge System. The syllabus focuses on the theoretical concepts as well as the empirical aspects of the discipline and it has been prepared in accordance with UGC-CBCS System.
